Pauline Edith Hayes
November 6, 1913 - August 16, 2007

Pauline Hayes was born in Bristow, Virginia, to Roberta Jane (Robertson) Woodyard and Wilman Wallace Woodyard. She came to the Washington, D.C., area during her teenage years and married Horace Moutreville Hayes shortly afterward. The couple had one son, Donald Horace Hayes who was born in 1931 and died in 2005. Horace was a long-time employee of the Washington Gas Light Company. He died in 1977, having retired from the Company a short time before.

Pauline and Horace were very active members of the Church of the Holy Communion. Pauline served on the Vestry of the Parish, and belonged to several organizations, notably the Altar Guild, the Women of the Church, and the Daughters of the King. She played a major role in the planning of the present church building when it was constructed in the mid-fifties. Later, she became the Financial Secretary of the Parish and served many years as Secretary to her bowling league until she had to resign for reasons of health in the late nineties. In 2005, she moved from the house where she had lived for 75 years and entered an assisted living facility in Waldorf, MD, where she stayed until her final illness.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Donald Burton Hayes and Terry Lynn Hayes Atkinson, a great-grandchild, Cameron Atkinson, all of the Atlanta, GA, area, and a number of nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a multitude of friends from her neighborhood, her church, and her bowling leagues.
